Chili Open Singles Tournament 2009
The Dufferin Tennis Club held it's first tournament of the season, the Chili Open, on Saturday, June 6 under warm and sunny skies. A total of 26 competitors took to the courts in hopes of capturing the revered title in the morning and only a few remained standing at the end of the day as players and family enjoyed a chili feast. The feast consisted of four different batches of chili entered into the chili cook-off contest, green and pasta salads, garlic bread and ice cream and cookies for dessert.
Nick Parpotta won the A division with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Eric Hurlburt. Garry Horsnell defeated Jeff Armstrong 8-5 for the B title and DJ Morrison defeated Alex Bakker in the C final. DJ Morrison was also the winner of the chili cook-off contest in a unanimous decision by the judges.
Thanks to Peter Munzar for organizing the tournament; Joanne Munzar for preparing snacks and much of our feast, and for donating some nice pottery to the winners; to all the players and/or families who cooked up a batch of chili; and to all those who helped out in the kitchen throughout the day.
